They should tell you about this
Workflow tricks Figma never mentions — curated from real use.
Hold Cmd/Ctrl to resize a frame without its children⌘
Constraints normally make child layers stretch or reposition when you resize their frame. Hold Cmd (Ctrl on Windows) while dragging a frame's resize handle and Figma ignores all constraints for that resize — the frame changes size while every child stays exactly where it is. Ideal for adding breathing room to a design without disturbing the layout inside.
Cmd/Ctrl-click to select deeply nested layers instantly⌘
Instead of double-clicking down through group after group, hold Cmd (Ctrl on Windows) and click any object on the canvas: Figma selects the deepest layer directly under your cursor, no matter how many frames and groups it is buried inside. Combine it with a right-click and "Select layer" to pick from a menu of everything stacked under the pointer.
Use the Scale tool so strokes and text resize tooK
Resizing with the normal Move tool keeps stroke weights, corner radii, and font sizes fixed, which distorts the design's proportions. Press K to switch to the Scale tool before dragging: everything — strokes, effects, text size — scales together, so a component shrunk to half size still looks like the original. Type a value in the right panel to scale by an exact factor.
Rename many layers at once with the rename tool⌘+R
Select several layers and press Cmd+R (Ctrl+R on Windows) to open Figma's batch rename dialog. You can find-and-replace text across all selected layer names, or build new names with variables: $n inserts an ascending number and $nn zero-pads it, so "Photo $n" produces Photo 1, Photo 2, Photo 3. It also works on a single layer as a quick rename shortcut.
Hold Alt to measure the distance between any two layers⌥
Select a layer, hold Alt (Option on Mac), and hover over any other layer: Figma draws red measurement lines showing the exact pixel distance between the two objects' edges. Hover over empty canvas instead to see the selection's distance to its parent frame. This is the fastest way to check spacing against a design spec without adding a single guide.
