EEVEE vs Cycles, in plain words

Blender includes three render engines. EEVEE is a physically based realtime renderer — the fast one. Cycles is a physically based path tracer, which simulates light more thoroughly and takes longer. Workbench is designed for layout, modeling and previews, not final output. Cameras, lights and materials are shared between EEVEE and Cycles, but some features are only supported in one or the other.
